Mickey Murphy
My name is Mickey Murphy. I enjoy injecting thoughtful uniqueness in everything I do, solving problems with creative solutions, finding ways to help others... and, of course, longs walks on the Arizona pavement. 😄
I begun my journey into the digital skillset landscape early on. I began filming, editing and uploading YouTube videos in 2007 off and on in the pursuit of a passion/hobby that I have yet to let go of. I started drawing and making art more intently around this time as well. Shortly after, I obtained a copy of Adobe Photoshop. Through endless amounts of free YouTube video education, I learned the ins and outs of the program at 12 years old and haven't stopped deploying it for art creation since.
At age 20, in between non-creative jobs, I decided "what the heck, why not apply for this design job at Shutterfly that I have no experience for besides my own self-taught photoshop skills." I got the call. I then followed that up with trying to learn Adobe Illustrator (a prerequisite) as quickly as possible to present some rather poor portfolio examples at the interview. I somehow landed the job. Although likely due to the fact they had an intensive two-week training period on how to use Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, so even just having experience in Photoshop was good enough. 😄
This begun my professional journey into graphic design. I have been in the multimedia field for over six years now. I spent a year as a production designer for Shutterfly (before they canned the entire department lol), then a year and a half at Lifetouch National School Studios as the Photoshop guy. Since then, I've spent the last three and a half years at a local print company as a graphic artist and the social media manager making a wide variety of print and digital materials for their large array of clients. As well as making funny promotional videos or montage videos for their social media. With this, I have gained a large array of multimedia knowledge and skills that are ready to be put to use.
But outside all of it, I'm just an artist looking for ways to bring together new perspectives; generate interesting ideas for the world; create something different than what we've grown accustomed to.
